PH Ambassador to Nairobi Presents His Credentials to Malawian President

LILONGWE 16 January 2020 — Philippine Ambassador to Nairobi Alex G. Chua presented his Credentials to Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika, on 07 January 2020 at the Kamuzu Palace, Lilongwe, Malawi.

Ambassador Chua conveyed the warm felicitations of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to President Mutharika, and added that they share a similar vision for their country and people, and common commitment to democracy, social justice, development, and progress.

Ambassador Chua likewise expressed a hope that he will succeed in his endeavor to promote further the existing bilateral relations between the Philippines and Malawi.

President Mutharika expressed his confidence that the Ambassador Chua would achieve his goals. He also signified that as Ambassador Chua is based in nearby Kenya, that returning to Malawi frequently during his tenure would be assured as part of the Ambassador’s mandate to promote bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Mutharika assumed the Presidency on 31 May 2014. He is currently serving his second term as President after his reelection to the Office in May 2019. A politician, lawyer and educator, he has worked internationally in the field of international justice before returning to serve in Malawi.

President Mutharika surprised Ambassador Chua by greeting him in Filipino, which he learned from his Filipino classmates in Harvard. END
