07 April 2014 – ASEAN Missions based in Dhaka have established the ASEAN Dhaka Committee (ADC) which was formally launched at a reception held at the Radisson Blu Waters Hotel in Dhaka on April 2.

 

ASEAN’s presence in Bangladesh is represented by eight (8) of its country members namely, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam which have diplomatic missions in Dhaka.

 

The program commenced with the singing of the ASEAN anthem followed by the opening remarks of ADC Chairperson and Malaysian High Commissioner Norlin Othman. 

 

In her opening remarks, High Commissioner Othman conveyed ADC’s aims to increase knowledge of ASEAN in Bangladesh by creating a number of venues for cultural promotions and to boost its economic ties through collective ASEAN trade efforts with Bangladesh.

 

The reception was well attended by representatives from the business community, government offices, diplomatic corps and officers and staff members of the ASEAN Missions in Dhaka.

 

On its commitment to uphold ASEAN solidarity, all the Dhaka-based ASEAN Missions worked together to create a welcoming ambiance at the reception through tourism and cultural exhibits including the preparation of their respective national dishes that were served to the delight of all the guests.
