FALEO-LA Grants Scholarships to Filipino, American Youths

LOS ANGELES 09 December 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General joined the sixth Annual Scholarship Awards Dinner of the Filipino-American Law Enforcement Officers Association Los Angeles Chapter (FALEO-LA) on 19 October 2019 at the Bicycle Hotel Casino in Bell Gardens, CA.

A total of eight scholarship awardees, four from the U.S. and four from the Philippines, were chosen by the organization. The U.S. Scholarship recipients are Joshua Lopez, Alyssa Yung, Maiya Villanueva, and Brandon Osario, while the Philippine Scholarship Recipients are Jovane Lapaza, Christian Mar Arano, Noellain Gumba Sebusa, and Verly Glen Arumbo.

Third Secretary and Vice Consul Joan Macrise C. Corrado, who represented Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz, commended the Association for its sterling tradition of public service, camaraderie and social interaction. She also encouraged the Association to further engage the youth and the next generation of Filipino-Americans to instill in them the importance of preserving and continuing their advocacies and programs in the years to come.

FALEO is composed of active and retired law enforcement personnel from various local, state, and federal agencies. Their membership also includes non-sworn personnel that service in the law-enforcement community and those who support the goals and objectives of the organization.

FALEO-LA President Ron Lizardo expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to all its members, friends and family who have shared their valuable time in supporting their activities and events. He also commended FALEO LA’s Scholarship Committee for their hard work and dedication in making the dinner and the program a success.

FALEO-LA’s Keynote Speaker was Los Alamitos Police Department Chief Eric R. Nuñez, who commended the organization on its efforts in advocating the pursuit of education of the Filipino and American youth. Chief Nuñez expressed how important it is for the youth to never give up on their education and their dreams.

The U.S. scholarship recipients expressed their gratitude in person at the dinner, while the Filipino scholarship recipients sent videos thanking FALEO for the opportunity given to them. END
