Three Fil-Ams Honored by LA City Council as the City Marks Filipino-American History Month

LOS ANGELES 09 December 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, represented by Vice Consul Dyan Kristine Miranda-Pastrana and Cultural Officer Maria Dolores C. Sales, attended the Filipino-American History Month celebration at the Los Angeles City Hall in the morning of 11 October 2019.
The city government marked the celebration during the session of the City Council with the awarding of certificates of recognition to three distinguished members of the Filipino-American community who have excelled in their respective fields.
Council members Mitch O’Farrell and Jose Huizar of Districts 13 and 14, respectively, led the presentation of Certificates of Recognition to Commissioner Theresa De Vera, the first Filipino-American President of the Commission on Disability of the City of Los Angeles; Commander Donald Graham, the first Filipino-American Commander of the Los Angeles Police Department; and renowned chef and owner of acclaimed Filipino restaurant Charles Olalia.
The event was organized with the support of the Los Angeles Association of City Employees (LAFACE) led by President Joan Alexandria Tagle as well as Fil-Am appointed officials at the City of Los Angeles, Deputy Mayor Miguel Sangalang and Commissioner Jessica Caloza.
A Luncheon Program with the members of LAFACE and other Fil-Am community leaders followed after the awarding ceremony. END
