PH Consulate General Supports West Coast Screening of PH Indie Film, Across the Crescent Moon

LOS ANGELES 09 December 2019 – In celebration of the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles lent its full support for the West Coast screening of Independent Filipino film, “Across the Crescent Moon”.

The film’s writer, director, and producer Baby Nebrida called on Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz on 24 October 2019 and requested for the Consulate General’s assistance in promoting the screening of the film in select cinemas in the Los Angeles County.

Nebrida was accompanied by her son, Jodi Nebrida Halikman of Gold Barn International, movie’s West Coast Marketing Director Carol Fajardo, and Rotary Club of Historic Filipino Town Ben Aranda.

According to Nebrida, who is well-known in the Philippine film industry for her critically acclaimed films and documentaries, her film Across the Crescent Moon is very timely as it highlights the struggles of inter-faith relationships, as well as social problems plaguing the Philippines, such as human trafficking, drug smuggling, and true to life encounters of modern day slavery. Ms. Nebrida added that the film also won Best Global Film in the International Film Festival of Manhattan and was chosen Student’s Choice Best Film by the Catholic Mass Media Awards in 2018.

As promoting Philippine film industry in the United States is one of the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy thrusts, the Consulate General assisted Nebrida in arranging a Press Conference for the film and in disseminating information about the film’s LA screening to the Filipino-American community organizations. The presscon was held at the Noypitz Bar and Grill on 05 November 2019 and was attended by around 20 members of the local Fil-Am media.

The film’s premier screening was successfully held at the Aratani Theater in downtown Los Angeles on 09 November 2019.  It was also shown at the Covina Center for the Performing Arts on 11 November 2019.  The film had its final screening at The Colony Theater in Burbank on 25 November 2019. END
