LOS ANGELES 09 December 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles is pleased to announce that two of its nominees, Dr. Antonio Moya and Mr. Frederick Alain Docdocil, were selected to be among the 15 Outstanding Filipino-American Leaders who will embark on an immersion trip to the Philippines as part of the Eighth edition of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO).
Dr. Moya and Mr. Docdocil called on Consul General Adelio Angelito S. Cruz on 07 November 2019 to share their planned legacy projects, which will focus on health and financial services, respectively, for the Filipino community in Southern California.
Dr. Antonio Moya is a neurology fellow for the UCLA National Clinician Scholars Program. He conducts his clinical work as a Los Angeles Department of Health Services Scholar and neurologist at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. He is particularly interested in neurology health systems in resource poor areas of the United States, the Philippines, China, and other Asian countries. He continues to advocate for improved health for immigrants and their communities in large U.S. urban cities.
Mr. Frederick Alain Docdocil on the other hand, is a Public Relations Officer of the City of Carson, California. He is an active member of various Filipino-American community organizations, such as the Filipino Community of Carson and the National Federation of Filipino-American Associations, among others. Mr. Docdocil is also the Mabuhay Branch and Business Development Coordinator for Mabuhay Credit Union, which is the very first full-service financial institution established to specifically focus on the Filipino community in Southern California and beyond with products and solutions catering to the community’s particular financial service needs.
Through the FYLPRO immersion program, Moya, Docdocil and 13 other delegates will be given the opportunity to reconnect with their roots and engage with government leaders, business executives, cultural experts, social entrepreneurs, and innovators in different fields in the Philippines.
The 2019 FYLPRO is a joint undertaking by the Philippine Foreign Service Posts in the United States, the Ayala Foundation, Inc. and the Filipino Young Leaders Program Organization.
Launched in 2012 as part of then Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Cuisia’s advocacy to reach out to the youth, the FYLPRO initiative aims to tap outstanding young Filipino Americans who possess a sincere desire to be engaged in their respective communities and promote the Philippines’ further development. Due to an overwhelming response in high-quality applicants this year, the usual number of ten delegates has been increased to 15 to reflect the growth of the Filipino-American population and the expansion of the FYLPRO program.
