ACBA Donates ICT Equipment to Escuela República De Filipinas, Mataderos

BUENOS AIRES 09 December 2019 –– The ASEAN Committee in Buenos Aires (ACBA), composed of the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment to the Escuela República de Filipinas in Mataderos, Greater Buenos Aires, in a ceremony held at the school on 03 December 2019.
Proceeds from the raffle during the ASEAN Bazaar held on 06 April 2019 were used to purchase the equipment, comprised of a speaker set, new desktop, and printer. Other Embassies also gave their respective donations.
Speaking on behalf of the ACBA, Philippine Ambassador to Argentina Linglingay F. Lacanlale, ACBA Chair, hoped that the equipment will help to address the needs of the school and its students. The school prides itself in accepting students from different backgrounds, including children with disabilities.
The Escuela República de Filipinas School Director Marcela Ursi, thanked ACBA for the donation of goods, which she said would help the school immensely. As a token of the school’s appreciation, school authorities presented the Ambassadors with their respective flags, painted by the school children.
Supervisor of Direccion de Educación Primaria of Buenos Aires Norberto Ares also conveyed the gratitude of the Argentine education authorities to the ACBA Ambassadors. Mr. Ares stated that ASEAN is a success story of cooperation which should be emulated around the world.
The school children rendered a special performance of the Filipino folk dance tinikling, which was greeted with enthusiastic applause by the audience.
The school was named after the Philippines by the Consejo Nacional de Educacion in 1965. It is a practice in Argentina to name schools after different countries.
