TEL AVIV 10 December 2019 –– The Philippines Embassy in Tel Aviv hosted the premiere screening in Israel and the Middle East of Balangiga: Howling Wilderness, the second feature film of the second Philippine Film Festival in Israel, at the Cinematheque Tel Aviv on 17 November 2019.

Continuing the festival’s focus on historical themes, Balangiga recalls a painful period during the Philippine-American war in 1901, narrated through the eyes of a young boy named Kulas, who was fleeing his hometown with his grandfather and buffalo amid the humanitarian catastrophe caused by U.S. military abuses.

In partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the film’s director and co-writer Mr. Khavn dela Cruz and Balangiga’s producer and co-writer Achinette Villamor graced the event and enlightened the audience with insights on their filmmaking process, inspiration, and challenges during a brief program prior to the screening of the film. Mr. Khavn concluded the short program with a spoken word poetry performance that delighted the mixed audience of Israelis, Filipinos, and diplomats. END
