PARIS 22 January 2020 — Philippine Permanent Delegate to UNESCO and Ambassador to France Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro met with Chairperson of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Executive Board Agapito Mba Mokuy of Equatorial Guinea on 20 January 2020.
Ambassador Lazaro congratulated Mr. Mokuy and conveyed the Philippines’ support for his leadership of the Executive Board. She cited the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation in UNESCO and promoted the interests of developing countries.
Chairperson Mokuy underscored his desire to work closely with the Philippines, noting the “dynamism” of the delegation in UNESCO. They agreed that UNESCO should be more Member State-driven, inclusive and focused on its fundamental mandate. They also pledged to enhance UNESCO’s visibility on gender issues.
The Philippines is one of the 58 Executive Board members and will serve until 2021. END
