PH Embassy in Riyadh Conducts Contingency Planning Activities in the Eastern Region

RIYADH 22 January 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh conducted contingency planning activities in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia on 17-18 January 2020 in order to raise the readiness of its personnel and the Filipino community in the region in responding to crisis situations.

Embassy officials led by Philippine Ambassador to Riyadh Adnan V. Alonto met members of the Filipino community at the International Philippines School in Al Khobar on 17 January 2020 and briefed them on the latest security situation in Saudi Arabia and the general procedures and protocols that will be followed in case a crisis erupts in the Kingdom or in the region.

In his remarks, Ambassador Alonto assured the Filipino community that the situation in Saudi Arabia remains stable and secure, that the Philippine government is prepared to assist Filipinos caught in crisis situations abroad, and that the Philippine missions in the Kingdom are continuously preparing for every contingency.

Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac, also briefed the Filipino community on the ongoing projects of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and conveyed to them the assurances of Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III that the Department of Labor and Employment is closely monitoring the situation of all Overseas Filipino Workers, particularly those in crisis areas.

The officials of the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office – Eastern Region Operations (POLO-ERO) also met on 18 January 2020 to discuss the role of the latter in the implementation of the contingency plan. The Embassy and POLO-ERO succeeded in formulating action plans for the refinement of the contingency plan and strengthening of the existing coordination systems and networks in the Eastern Region.
