Senator Nancy Binay Visits UNESCO Headquarters in Paris

PARIS 22 January 2020 –– Senator Maria Lourdes “Nancy” Binay visited the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Headquarters in Paris, France on 13 January 2020.
As Chairperson of the Senate Committee for Education, Arts, and Culture and Commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Senator Binay met with Philippine Ambassador to France and Philippine Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Ma. Theresa Lazaro to discuss plans to further promote Philippine culture heritage through UNESCO.
Following the inscription of Buklog, thanksgiving ritual system of the Subanen on the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in Need of Urgent Safeguarding during the 14th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of ICH in December 2019, Senator Binay plans to work closely with the NCCA, the Department of Tourism, and relevant government agencies, local government and communities to continuously promote and protect Philippine cultural heritage sites and intangible cultural heritage through UNESCO.
Senator Binay also attended the “Salon de la Plongée”, which is an exhibition at the Porte de Versailles Exposition Center in Paris this month on diving sites across the world. The Philippines was featured as one of the most pristine and interesting diving spots for French tourists, especially Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park in Palawan which is notably also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
