PH Ambassador to the UAE Heads PH delegation to the 10th IRENA Assembly

ABU DHABI 24 January 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Hjayceelyn M. Quintana represented the Philippines at the tenth Session of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly from 10 to 12 January 2020 in Abu Dhabi as the initial event of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) 2020.
Ambassador Quintana, as Head of Delegation, was joined by Department of Energy – Renewable Energy Management Bureau Assistant Director Marisa P. Cerezo and Third Secretary of the Embassy Von Ryan G. Pangwi.
The IRENA Assembly is attended yearly by different policy and decision makers from different countries to participate in the discussions on the advancement of the technology and use of Renewable Energy. A total of 150 countries attended this year’s assembly.
The Philippine delegation explored collaborative opportunities for ocean energy, hydropower, and geothermal energy.
“We have ten years left to fulfill the commitment set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This period will also be decisive for the ability to hold the line on rising global temperatures. Transitioning to clean energy systems is at the heart of these global agendas. And renewable energy increasingly plays a major role in national development and climate strategies”, Director-General Francesco La Camera said in his opening remarks for the IRENA Assembly’s tenth Session.
The Philippines is a founding member of IRENA, which was established in 2009. END
