PH Embassy in Buenos Aires Commemorates 123rd Death Anniversary of Jose Rizal

BUENOS AIRES 08 January 2020 –– The Philippine Embassy in Buenos Aires commemorated the 123rd Anniversary of the Death of Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal with a wreath-laying ceremony at on 27 December in Paseo de la República de Filipinas in Belgrano, Buenos Aires.

After the wreath-laying ceremony, the Philippine Embassy hosted a 30-minute screening of a documentary film entitled, “Jose Rizal: Sa Landas ng Paglaya” at the Embassy Chancery.

In his remarks, First Secretary and Consul Jason Jovencio A. Anasarias reminded the attendees about the importance of not only remembering the Philippine national hero, but also understanding his place in Philippine history, which was the summary of the short documentary from the National Commission on Culture and the Arts.

The President of the Local Commune (Comuna 13) where the bust is located, Mrs. Florencia Scavino, was guest of honor. Mrs. Scavino conveyed the interest of the local commune in conducting joint cultural activities with the Embassy to promote greater awareness about Philippine culture among its inhabitants.

A breakfast reception followed after the documentary film-showing, serving Filipino food dilis and tapsilog. Both of the events were attended by some members of the Filipino community in Argentina and Embassy staff. END
