NAIROBI 14 January 2020 –– The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi celebrated with the Filipino community during the Paskong Pinoy at the Philippine Chancery at Mzima Springs Road, Lavington on 15 December 2019.

In true Filipino Christmas tradition, the celebration included a Filipino mass. After the mass, attendees enjoyed the music, games, and exchanging of gifts.

In his remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua underscored the importance of togetherness and unity in the Filipino community. “Christmas is a time for families and though we are away from our families in the Philippines, we know that we are working hard in Africa for their welfare and well-being”.

“Christmas is the time we, the Filipino community, our family away from home can unite and together celebrate the essence of a Filipino Christmas to ease the loneliness and longing for our families in the Philippines”, Ambassador Chua added.

The Embassy likewise officially launched the countdown for the Quincentennial celebration commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Datu Lapu Lapu’s victory against the fleet of Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan this April 2021.

The Paskong Pinoy began with a Filipino mass celebrated by Father Deem Virtusado and culminated with the singing of traditional Filipino Christmas carols. END
