DFA Officials Meet Iranian Counterparts

TEHRAN 07 February 2020 – Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications and Research Eduardo Martin R. Meñez met Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Spokesperson Abbas Mousavi in Tehran, Iran on 28 January 2020.

The two discussed Philippines-Iran bilateral relations and a range of topics of mutual concern. Likewise, Assistant Secretary Meñez and Mr. Mousavi had a cordial exchange of ideas on enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries and its peoples, through public and cultural diplomacy.

They also discussed possible areas of cooperation and exchanges in cultural and heritage sites preservation, and state media relations.

Assistant Secretary Meñez, former Philippine Ambassador to Iran, was accompanied by the Philippines’ current top diplomat in the country, Philippine Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo C. Santos.

Aside from meeting with Mr. Mousavi, Assistant Secretary Meñez is also in Iran to lead a Rapid Response Team (RRT) from the Department of Foreign Affairs, augmenting the Embassy’s efforts to survey the viability and safety of border crossings, and ensuring preparedness in case there will be a need to evacuate Filipino nationals.
