HELSINKI 12 February 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia visited the University of Helsinki on 05 February 2020 to explore mutually-beneficial specific modes of cooperation between the University of Helsinki and a counterpart university in the Philippines. Ambassador Batoon-Garcia met with the University of Helsinki Vice Rector Hanna Snellman.

Noting that the Philippines is a growing economy with large natural resources and large population, the cooperation could start with exchange of students in the different aspects of sustainability science, such as sustainable bio-production, sustainable use of natural resources, urban planning and waste management.

Established in 1640, the University of Helsinki is Finland’s largest and oldest academic institution. According to Vice Rector Snellman, the university is an international and scientific community of 40,000 students and researchers. In international university rankings, the university typically ranks among the top 100.

Joining Ambassador Batoon-Garcia in the visit were Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General Maria Elena Algabre of the Philippine Embassy in Oslo, and Minister Raul Dado of the soon-to-be established Philippine Embassy in Stockholm. END
