PH Joins Discussions on Closer Economic Ties between East Asian Economic Union, ASEAN

MOSCOW 18 December 2019 — The Philippines joined recent discussions on the possibility of building closer ties between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The international seminar entitled, “EAEU and ASEAN. Regional Economic Integration” was organized by the Russia-ASEAN Business Council and the Russian Ministry of Economic Development. It was held on 09-10 December 2019 in Moscow.
The EAEU is composed of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Russian Federation. It provides for the free movement of goods, services, capital and labor. It pursues coordinated, harmonized and single policy in the sectors determined by the Treaty and international agreements within the Union.
The Philippine Delegation was headed by Department of Trade and Industry Assistant Secretary for Industry Development and Trade Policy Group Atty. Allan B. Gepty, and composed of representatives from the Bureau of International Trade Relations, the Board of Investments, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow, and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Moscow.
“We welcome this international seminar and thank the organizers for bringing together the key players. The Philippines supports discussions on this subject and much was learned during this event particularly from the side of the EAEU,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.
The Philippine Delegation also met with the Philippine Embassy on 11 December 2019 and discussed EAEU and ASEAN, as well as Philippine-Russia economic cooperation. END
