MOSCOW 19 February 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Moscow expressed its deep appreciation to two Kazakh organizations —Non-Government Organization (NGO) Rodnik Center and by the Almaty branch of the International Organization for Migration (IOM)— for the assistance they gave to two distressed Filipinos in Almaty, Kazakhstan shortly after they were repatriated on 11 February 2020.

“We are very grateful to the Rodnik Center and to IOM in Kazakhstan for all their help that allowed our nationals to return home.  We are thankful that we have them as partners in our efforts to protect and serve our distressed nationals,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.

The two Filipinos were relatives and one was in poor health. Both decided that they needed to go home after struggling with finding stable employment in Kazakhstan.

The two organizations worked to get the Filipina's passport back from her agency and then helped her receive proper medical care. They then arranged for her medical repatriation, accompanied by her relative. Rodnik Center then purchased tickets for both nationals to return home to Zamboanga City.

PF Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation and Adaptation for Women and Children Rodnik Center is an organization that has been operating in Almaty, Kazakhstan since 2001. In recent years, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow, which has jurisdiction over Kazakhstan, has worked with NGO Rodnik Center to provide assistance to Filipinos in distress, including assistance in deportation and repatriation, retrieval of passports, mediation with employers, and counseling in labor and other legal matters.
