Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. and Lao PDR Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith hold a bilateral meeting in Vientiane, Lao PDR, on 20 February 2020.

VIENTIANE 27 February 2020 – Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. undertook his official introductory visit to Lao PDR on 19 to 20 February 2020, concurrent with his trip to Vientiane to attend and co-chair the Special ASEAN-China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on COVID-19.

The Secretary held a bilateral meeting with Lao Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith to review bilateral relations and discuss proposals for enhanced cooperation in defense, trade and investments, education, technical and vocational training, and tourism.

The Secretary was accompanied by Philippine Ambassador to Laos Belinda M. Ante, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Policy Enrique A. Manalo, Assistant Secretary for Asian and Pacific Affairs Meynardo LB Montealegre, and other DFA and Embassy officials.

Later in the day, the Secretary paid a courtesy call on Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith.

The Philippines and Lao PDR are commemorating 65 years of official ties this year, having established diplomatic relations on 14 January 1955. END
