Secretary Locsin Meets with FilCom in Riyadh

RIYADH 29 February 2020 — As part of his two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. met with about 150 leaders of the Filipino community in Riyadh on 28 February 2020 at Marriot Hotel, Riyadh.

Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Adnan V. Alonto welcomed the Filipino community leaders, saying that the Secretary’s visit was an affirmation of the special relations of the Philippines and Saudi Arabia and the importance of the overseas Filipinos living and working in the Kingdom, the largest in the middle-east region.

“What the Embassy and the DFA are doing are part of the mandate from President Duterte to extend all and the best possible assistance to overseas Filipinos worldwide,” Secretary Locsin remarked.

The Secretary likewise responded to a number of questions raised by the attendees, including the general status of the consular or passport services of the Philippine Embassy, the efforts of the Philippine Government on the COVID-19 outbreak, and the DFA’s Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) services.

The said FilCom meeting was one of the highlights of the Secretary’s visit to Saudi Arabia. END
