Presidential Adviser on OFW and Muslim Concerns Meets Bahrain Labor Official

MANAMA 02 March 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Manama welcomed a delegation from the Office of the President headed by Presidential Adviser on OFW and Muslim Concerns Secretary Abdullah D. Mama-o, who visited Bahrain on a two-day official mission from 24 to 25 February 2020 to ensure the Philippine Government’s commitment to the protection of 55,000 Filipinos in Bahrain in light of the recent security situation in the Gulf region.

A townhall meeting was also hosted by the Philippine Embassy for the delegation to meet with more than 50 leaders of various Filipino organizations in Bahrain.  During the said meeting, Secretary Mama-o conveyed President Duterte’s assurances to the Filipino community in Bahrain of the government’s readiness in addressing the needs of Filipinos in the Gulf in case of any eventuality. The event also gave an opportunity for the participants to discuss with Secretary Mama-o various matters concerning the Filipino community in Bahrain.

Part of Secretary Mama-o’s mission to Bahrain is to closely collaborate with the government of the Kingdom of Bahrain in promoting the welfare and protecting the rights of Filipino nationals in Bahrain. In his meeting with Bahrain’s Minister of Labor and Social Development, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Secretary Mama-o conveyed the appreciation of the Philippines for the kind treatment extended by Bahrain to Filipino workers, highlighting the Kingdom’s progressive policies and groundbreaking labor reforms. Minister Humaidan assured Bahrain’s firm commitment to address concerns of the Filipino community, including their protection for any widespread security incident. 

Joining Secretary Mama-o in his visit to Bahrain are Office of the Presidential Adviser on OFW and Muslim Concerns Undersecretary Edwin D. Bael and Philippine Embassy in Kuwait Charge d’ Affairs, a.i.Moh’d Noordin Pendosina N. Lomondot. END
