ASEAN Village Promotes Diversity at the National Multicultural Festival in Canberra

CANBERRA 02 March 2020 – Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Chief Minister Andrew Barr and ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs Chris Steel officially opened the ASEAN Village at the National Multicultural Festival on 22 February 2020. They were joined by the Ambassadors and High Commissioners or their representatives of all 10 ASEAN missions in Canberra.
The opening ceremony showcased a range of cultural performances from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand demonstrating the richness and diversity of ASEAN Member States. Guests at the ASEAN Village also enjoyed learning about the tourism destinations in ASEAN, trying out culinary delights, and immersing themselves in the different cultural experiences.
The ASEAN Village has been organized by the ASEAN Committee in Canberra for the fourth year in a row since 2017 when ASEAN celebrated its 50th Anniversary. This year, Philippine Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega chairs the ASEAN Committee in Canberra from January to June 2020. The ASEAN Village highlights the enduring and historic friendship between ASEAN and Australia. END
