PH Deposits Instrument of Accession to the Hague Conference on Private International Law

The HAGUE 04 March 2020 – The Philippines deposited today, 04 March 2020, the Instrument of Accession to the Service of Process Convention at the Peace Palace, The Hague, Netherlands. The deposit was made by Foreign Affairs Undersecretary J. Eduardo Malaya during the meeting of the Council on General Affairs and Policy of The Hague Conference on Private International Law, and was witnessed by the Philippine Ambassador to the Netherlands Jaime Victor B. Ledda, and Philippine Supreme Court Chief Justice Diosdado M. Peralta and Court Administrator Jose Midas P. Marquez.
Chief Justice Peralta welcomed the accession, as it will minimize delays in the justice system and enhance the overall administration of justice.
The said HCCH Convention establishes a streamlined transmission of judicial and extrajudicial documents from one State Party to another State Party.
Further, the convention is one of the most practical international instruments with a direct benefit to the millions of Filipinos globally who are burdened with inefficiencies in the traditional mode of serving processes. END
