Forum on Insurgency Situation in PH, Other Updates Held in New York

NEW YORK 05 March 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in New York hosted a Focus Group Discussion on “Insurgency Situation in the Philippines and Other Updates” on 28 February 2020 at the Philippine Center New York’s Kalayaan Hall.

Department of National Defense (DND) Human Resource Assistant Secretary Antonio L. Bautista discussed the current security situation in the Philippines. He also shared the government strategies in combatting insurgencies such as building more infrastructure projects in order to reach remote areas. “Development and progress are the best weapon against insurgency,” Assistant Secretary Bautista said.

Assistant Secretary Bautista was joined in the forum by Armed Forces of the Philippines officials Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel Major General Adriano Perez Jr., and Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans Brigadier General Jeffrey Hechanova. The officials emphasized the importance of the whole-of-nation approach in ending local communist armed conflict as established under EO No. 70. They are in New York to attend meetings in the United Nations.

Members of the Filipino community in the US Northeast as well as Philippine Consulate General in New York and Philippine Mission in New York officers and staff attended the event. Philippine Consul General to New York Claro S. Cristobal facilitated the discussion. END
