JAKARTA 05 March 2020 — The Philippine Embassy’s Sentro Rizal Jakarta in a joint undertaking with the Philippine Women’s Association (PWA) lauched the 2020 Paaralan sa Pasuguan via Kwentuhan (Storytelling) on 29 February 2020 at the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta.
The activity was held in cooperation with the United Filipino Teachers in Indonesia (UFTI) and IndoFil.
During the event, the Filipino children in three age groups enjoyed the storytelling done by Filipino teachers in Jakarta. Teacher Clara Pagaduan handled children ages two to seven, sang and played the ukulele while reading the story of “Munting Patak ng Ulan (Small Rain Drops).” Teacher Alexander Abelar for ages eight to 11 started his story of “Si Gilas ang Haring Agila (Gilas the Eagle King” with a song and dance, and Teacher Trina Dolora Paguinto for ages 12 and above taught baybayin, a pre-Hispanic writing system in the Philippines, which literally means "to spell" in Tagalog.
Sentro Rizal Jakarta and its Filipino community partners committed to organize a quarterly event for the Paaralan sa Pasuguan for the year 2020 aiming to plant the seeds of Philippine culture among the Filipino children who are studying and has been raised in Indonesia, in a Filipino-style teaching and learning setting.
The Embassy acknowledges PWA, UFTI, and IndoFil for their generosity in sharing their time, talent, effort, and resources in this partnership for Sentro Rizal Jakarta’s cultural promotion projects, mandated by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. END
