KAMPALA 05 March 2020 — At the sidelines of the Presentation of his Credentials to Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Philippine Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua met with the Filipino community in Uganda on 25 February 2020 at the Shanghai Restaurant in Kampala.
The meeting provided Ambassador Chua with an opportunity to have a meaningful discussion with the Filipino community and get insight on our kababayan’s situation and concerns as workers, business owners and residents of Uganda.
The members of the community conveyed that they are satisfied with their life in Uganda as the Ugandans appreciate their contributions to their society.
Upon learning that the Ambassador was in Uganda, the other members of the Filipino community requested the officers of the Filipino Foundation in Uganda Ltd. to organize a get together to celebrate the successful Presentation of Credentials and an opportunity for a meet and greet with the members of the Filipino community on 27 February 2020.
Overwhelmed by the warm welcome from the Filipino community, Ambassador Chua thanked the Filipinos for bringing honor to the Philippines in Uganda and complimented their camaraderie and fellowship.
Filipinos in Uganda work in various industries such as construction, manufacturing, hospitality and retail. They are co-owners of companies (as it is mandated by law that they have Ugandan counterparts), managers, chefs and international civil servants (UN-based in Entebbe) and their families (as Uganda is a family duty station).
There are around 400 Filipinos in Uganda, concentrated in the cities of Kampala and Entebbe. END
