MANADO 06 March 2020 – Philippine Consul General to Manado Oscar G. Orcine paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the Provincial Council of North Sulawesi, Bapak Andrei Angouw Kamis on 27 February 2020 to encourage the provincial legislature to endorse the appeal of the Consulate General to open Bitung Port and Manado Airport as ports of entry for Philippine agricultural exports, particularly fruits and vegetables coming from Mindanao.

Consul General Orcine and Bapak Andrei agreed that a North Sulawesi that is open for Philippine exports is key to sustaining air and maritime connectivity between Mindanao and North Sulawesi. This is crucial to realizing the objective behind Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) to promote economic development in key areas which, although geographically distant from their national capitals, are in strategic proximity to each other – like Mindanao and North Sulawesi.

Bapak Andrei assured Consul General Orcine that he will look into relevant provincial regulations and see to it that appropriate steps are taken to accelerate the development of Mindanao-Sulawesi trade. END
