PH Consul General to Toronto Calls on Ontario Minister of Labor

TORONTO 09 March 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto Orontes V. Castro called on Ontario Minister of Labor Monte McNaughton at the latter’s office at University Avenue, Toronto. Philippine Labor Attaché in Toronto Attorney Rachel P. Zozobrado-Nagayo also attended the meeting.
Consul General Castro thanked the Minister for the general well treatment of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the Province of Ontario. Minister McNaughton replied that when he assumed office as Minister of Labor, he has focused on polices that will promote the health and safety of all workers in the Province of Ontario. He informed that the training and skills development of workers were added to the responsibility of his Ministry.
Minister McNaughton manifested his continued support for the OFWs and he further recognized their “strong” contribution to Ontario’s labor market. He assured Consul General Castro and Labor Attache Zozobrado-Nagayo that his office will assign a staff who will assist the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) - Toronto and the Consulate General on issues and concerns affecting the OFWs. He also agreed on the request to have his office conduct an orientation for the personnel of POLO-Toronto and the Consulate General on the provisions of Ontario’s Employment Standards Act and the Employment Protection of Foreign Nationals Act.
