LA-consular outreach

15 April 2014 – Deputy Consul General (DCG) and Acting Head of Post Imelda Panolong led a team from the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles that conducted a two-day consular outreach program in Albuquerque, New Mexico from April 5 to 6.

The consular outreach program was undertaken in cooperation with the Filipino American Foundation of New Mexico (FAFNM).

The Consulate processed 183 electronic passport (e-Passport) applications, including applications for lost passport during the two-day outreach program.

A total of 212 consular services were rendered during the consular outreach program, breakdown of which is as follows:

DCG Panolong attended the Bataan-Corregidor Commemoration at the Bataan Memorial Park in Albuquerque,  commemorating the Fall of Bataan and Corregidor and the Death March.  Present at the Memorial were American and Filipino veterans who survived the death march, Albuquerque City officials, New Mexico State officials, Adjutant General of New Mexico Brig. General Andrew Salas, and officers and members of the associations and agencies responsible for organizing the  event. These are the Bataan-Corregidor Memorial Foundation of New Mexico, City of Albuquerque, Fil-Am Foundation of New Mexico, Rio Grande Fil-Am National Historical Society and New Mexico National Guard.

Dr. Adelamar Alcantara, President of the Bataan-Corregidor Memorial Foundation of New Mexico opened the program and welcomed the guests.  In her remarks, DCG Panolong paid tribute to the 1,800 men of the 200th/515th Coast Artillery of New Mexico’s National Guard who were sent to the Philippines and who fought side by side with Filipino soldiers against the Japanese forces in Bataan and Corregidor.

The Consular Outreach Program (COP) is a regular activity of the Consulate to bring its various services closer to its constituents residing in areas within its jurisdiction. The Albuquerque Consular Outreach is the 6th for 2014. END
