CHICAGO 02 January 2020 — The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago personnel headed by Consul General to Chicago Gina A. Jamoralin with their families, and members of the Knights of Rizal in Chicago headed by Knight Grand Officer of Rizal Area Commander Mariano “Anong” Santos, trooped to the Margate Park in Chicago on 27 December 2020 to offer flowers at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal to commemorate the 123rd Anniversary of  his martyrdom on 30 December 2019.

The flower-offering ceremony was accompanied by a singing of the Philippine National Anthem and recitation of the Oath of Allegiance to the Flag.

Unveiled on 19 June 1999, the Rizal monument has served as the center of celebration by Filipinos in Chicago to recall the patriotism of the great national hero who was martyred for the sake of freedom and liberty of the Filipino people by Spain.

The Consulate spearheads the annual observance of Rizal Day and the Knights of Rizal occasionally conducts lectures to fellow Knights and members of the Filipino community in Chicago about the life and works of Rizal.

Consul General Jamoralin thanked those who were able to attend the ceremony despite the wintry weather.

A simple “salo-salo” at the Consulate followed the brief but meaningful celebration. END
