PH Consulate General in Los Angeles Joins Launch of 500-Day Countdown to 2021 Quincentennial Anniversary of the Victory at Mactan

LOS ANGELES 06 January 2020 — The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles – Sentro Rizal, joined the launch of the 500-day countdown to the 2021 Quincentennial Commemoration of the Victory at Mactan in the Philippines. The launch was held on 16 December 2019, following the Monday flag ceremony at the Consulate General’s Community Hall.
To officially launch the 500-day countdown in Los Angeles, Deputy Consul General Ambrosio Brian F. Enciso III led the lighting of the Consulate General’s parol (Christmas lanterns) and invited the audience to watch the music video of the Quincentennial theme song entitled “Bagani”, which translates to “warrior”.
In his remarks, Deputy Consul General Enciso gave a brief background on the Victory at Mactan, particularly the heroism of Lapu-lapu, and highlighted the significance of celebrating this historical milestone in the Philippines.
With the theme, “Victory and Humanity”, the National Quincentennial Committee (NCQ), has put together celebratory events leading to the 500thAnniversary of the Victory at Mactan to be celebrated in April 2021.
The NCQ was created by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte through Executive Order No. 55, series of 2018 to celebrate the memory of Filipino ancestors before the arrival of the Spaniards.
The ceremony inaugurating the 500-day countdown was held simultaneously in the cities of Lapu-Lapu, Davao and Manila on 14 December 2019. It will feature 21 key landmarks in the Philippines and will span the years 2019 through 2021. END
