MOSCOW 24 March 2020 – As part of its 2020 Women’s Month Celebration, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow held an e-Kapihan on legal issues common to Filipino migrant women on 15 March 2020.
Vice Consul Anna Guerra delivered a lecture on “Philippine Laws and Filipino Migrant Women”, where she discussed laws affecting Filipina migrants as well as common concerns of female consular and Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) clients.
Vice Consul Guerra is a member of the Philippine Bar and has handled the Consular and ATN sections in her previous posting at the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
The e-lecture aimed at helping Filipina migrants become aware of their rights and the available remedies under Philippine laws. It was broadcasted live on the Embassy’s Facebook page (@PHLinRussia) to comply with “social distancing” measures being implemented to stem the increase of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, and has been viewed over 2,500 times as of 19 March 2020.
Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta expressed support to this initiative and emphasized that “Women’s Rights is not only an issue of the females in our society. When women are aware of their rights, they become empowered to make better decisions that will benefit not only themselves, but also including the male members of their families.”
The event is one of the Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) activities lined up for this year’s Women’s Month celebration, the first of which was a fund-raising art workshop dubbed as “Creating Masterpieces for Life and Hope” held on 05 March 2020 at the Chancery. END
