PH Embassy in Nairobi Receives its First Overseas Voting Registrants for 2020

NAIROBI 14 January 2020 — The Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya received its first overseas voting registrants in Nairobi, Kenya for the Overseas Voting (OV) Registration on 07 January 2020 at the Consular Section of the Chancery in Nairobi, Kenya.

Brother Antero C. Mejos Jr. and Sister Yvette H. Hufanda came to the Embassy to apply for the renewal of their passports but also registered when they learned of the OV registration campaign.

Brother Mejos is a member of the Sons of Divine Providence Congregation. He was assigned to Kenya on August 2017 and is taking up Theology Studies at the Tangaza University College in Langata, Nairobi, Kenya, on his way to the priesthood. Brother Mejos first worked for the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources in 2014 before answering the call of the Lord.

Sister Hufanda belongs to the Dominican Sisters of the Most Holy Rosary of the Philippines and has been serving as a missionary for over 33 years. She is a returning missionary in this country, having been first assigned to Kenya from 2007 to 2010 and now in December 2019.

Brother Mejos and Sister Hufanda affirmed their commitment to exercise their right to suffrage and mentioned that they will also help encourage more Filipinos to register through their own networks and social media accounts.

The Overseas Voting Registration highlights the Embassy’s commitment to reach out to all Overseas Filipinos in all 12 countries under its jurisdiction in East Africa. END
