LILONGWE 14 January 2020 — During his travel to Lilongwe, Malawi for the Presentation of his Credentials to Malawian President Arthur Peter Mutharika, Philippine Ambassador to Nairobi Alex G. Chua called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Honorable Francis Kasaila MP on 06 January 2020 to discuss ways and means to enhance Philippines-Malawi relations.
Ambassador Chua conveyed the felicitations of Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. to Foreign Minister Kasaila, and informed the Foreign Minister that Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Boy Locsin Jr. aims to focus more attention to bilateral relations with African countries in 2020.
Foreign Minister Kasaila expressed his hopes for further development of bilateral relations and finding possible areas of cooperation in order to improve both our economies, and especially to attract investors from the Philippines. He added that Malawi recognizes that they could benefit from the human capacity development brought by South-South cooperation and public-private partnership especially in the areas of food security and aqua produce.
Ambassador Chua declared that with the encouragement of the Foreign Minister, he will endeavor to succeed in promoting further the existing bilateral relations between the Philippines and Malawi.
Malawi, the warm heart of Africa, is a land-linked country covering 118,500 square meters, surrounded by Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia. The country is blessed with vast natural resources and enjoys vast tracts of natural scenery including game reserves and sandy beaches along the beautiful Lake Malawi.
Lake Malawi is one of the largest freshwater bodies in the world and holds the most diverse number of fish species in one single body — over 800 species. END
