BERLIN 16 December 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Berlin conducted its first-ever consular mission and Town Hall Meeting in Göttingen on 09 November 2019 during which it rendered consular services including passport renewal, civil registry, and one-on-one consultations.
The consular outreach was followed by a town-hall meeting where Team Leader Vice Consul Marie Cris Chieng provided the community with updates about the Embassy, including the recent establishment of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Berlin, and the opening of the Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt am Main earlier this year.
Less than three months ago, the community welcomed the arrival of eight Filipino nurses in Gottingen. More nurses are expected to arrive early next year. Vice Consul Chieng gave the newly-arrived nurses a short-briefing on work-place culture and life in Germany, to help them understand and adjust better in their new environment.
The consular outreach mission and town-hall meeting was successful undertaken with the close cooperation of long-time migrants in Göttingen Rudy and Nelly Lacambacal.
Located about 4.5 hours from Berlin, the City of Göttingen is a university town which also hosts a number of Filipino students. The City of Göttingen is easily accessible to some cities already belonging to the State of Hesse, such as Kassel, as well as to Hannover, the capital of the State of Lower Saxony. Approximately 1,620 Filipinos reside in the State of Lower Saxony. END
