PH Ambassador to Kenya Meets with Filipino Community in Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM 27 January 2020 – Philippine Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua met with the Filipino community in Tanzania on 26 January 2020.

Upon his arrival in Dar es Salaam, Ambassador Chua was welcomed by the Filipino Community in Tanzania (FCT) President Rachel Garcia, Vice President Maria Agnes Aniana and other FCT members. The FCT gave updates on the status of the Filipinos in different cities in Tanzania, the completion of Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) cases in Tanzania, and success stories of Filipinos in Tanzania.  Ambassador Chua encouraged continued cooperation between the Embassy and the FCT in the future.

Ambassador Chua visited Filipino-owned establishments in the city, such as Pinoy Resto which opened in February 2018 and has been serving famous Filipino dishes like kaldereta, mango float and buko pandan, which are well-received and regularly requested by Tanzanians, due to their similarity to local cuisine. Ambassador Chua also visited various Filipino-owned commercial establishments.

Aside from successful entrepreneurs, Filipinos in Tanzania are employed in various sectors such as in the medical profession, hotels, and restaurants.

The Filipino Community in Tanzania is one of the most active Filipino communities under the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi.  There are around 380 Filipino nationals in Tanzania. END
