21 April 2014- The Philippine Embassy in Santiago, together with Filipina overseas workers, celebrated International Women’s Month last March 30 with a film viewing of the multi-awarded and Metro Manila Film Festival Most Gender-Sensitive film 2012 “Thy Womb” at the Embassy.
Philippine Ambassador to Chile Maria Consuelo Puyat-Reyes, in her welcome address, talked about the rights of women and their roles in present society. She also encouraged the viewers to reflect on the morale of the story and its relation to their lives as overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and breadwinners of the family.
The Filipino community in Santiago greatly appreciated the event especially the interactive discussion held after the show, where personal experiences of the OFWs in relation to the film were shared.
A total of 30 participants attended the event. The three hour program culminated with snacks served at the patio of the Embassy. END
