AGANA 19 December 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in Agana led by Consul and acting Head of Post Mark Francis C. Hamoy, joined the simultaneous launch of the 500-day countdown to the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in Davao, Manila, and Lapu-Lapu City on 14 December 2019.

500 days from now in the year 2021, a series of celebrations will mark the fifth century of the circumnavigation of the world by Ferdinand Magellan proving the Earth is round.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed in 2018 Executive Order 55 designating the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) as the Secretariat of the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC).  The NQC is now spearheading government activities and projects commemorating the quincentennial in 2021, and takes the victory of Lapu-Lapu and his men against the Spanish colonizers and other related events as its core focus.  END
