Philippine Embassy in Hanoi Repatriates 143 Stranded, Distressed Filipinos in Vietnam

HANOI CITY 18 April 2020 -– The Philippine Embassy in Vietnam repatriated a total of 143 Filipinos through a Philippine Airlines chartered flight today following the global lockdown and economic downturn due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Charge d’ Affaires Paul Vincent Uy, the Philippine Embassy picked-up 71 Filipinos in Ho Chi Minh City and another 72 in Hanoi. Several of the repatriates were stranded in Vietnam due to flight cancellations while most were adversely affected by the economic difficulties brought about by the pandemic.

The Philippine Embassy also provided 43 of the Filipino repatriates with hostel accommodation and food allowance while waiting for the repatriation flight.

In addition, the Philippine Embassy arranged the loading in the chartered flight of various PPEs weighing 160 kilograms donated by “Pinoy sa Hanoi” group led by Mr. Jun Felix intended for the hospitals in the Philippines. END
