PH Consulate General, POLO in Toronto Jointly Assist Filipinos Affected By COVID-19

TORONTO 20 April 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto assisted and facilitated the securing of food supplies from the Food Bank in Scarborough for two stranded Filipino students from the Centennial College in Scarborough, Ontario and a Filipina caregiver in Toronto stricken with cancer on 15 April 2020.
The said Filipina stopped working in November 2019 due to her sickness and is being assisted by the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Toronto (POLO-Toronto) on her application for the Canada Emergency Response Benefits (CERB ) and Emergency Insurance (EI) benefits, as well as by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) for appropriate medical assistance.
The Consulate General’s Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) Officer Dennis Escobido assisted one of the students in receiving the food bags from Filipino-Canadian Kirsten Wilson of the Agincourt Community Services Association in Scarborough, Ontario.
Settlement Counselor of the Association Filipino-Canadian and one of the partner settlement counselors of POLO-Toronto Jamillah T. Mananghaya-Poernama informed the Consulate General and POLO-Toronto on the availability of the food supplies from the Food Bank for indigent and distressed Filipinos in the Toronto area. Ms. Ella Tan, another partner settlement counselor of POLO-Toronto is also providing support. END
