PH Embassy, FilCom: Thank You UAE for Medical Aid to Filipino Frontliners

ABU DHABI 01 May 2020 — Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE)  Hjayceelyn M. Quintana led the 650,000-strong Filipino community in thanking the UAE for sending much-needed medical aid for the use of the frontliners in the Philippines fighting the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The UAE government said that seven metric tons of much-needed medical supplies arrived in Manila on 29 April 2020 via a special plane. Both the Embassies of UAE in Manila and the Philippine Embassy in UAE coordinated the delivery and acceptance of the humanitarian aid.

In thanking the UAE, Ambassador Quintana said that “this medical assistance in the time of COVID-19 is only the latest of numerous instances in which the UAE has come to the aid of the Filipino people.”

Ambassador Quintana recalled that in November 2013, the UAE donated US$10 million to victims of Typhoon Haiyan (a.k.a. Typhoon Yolanda) in the Philippines, as directed by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Earlier this year, the UAE’s Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) launched a campaign with the Philippine Embassy to aid 200,000 displaced families affected by the Taal Volcano eruption, upon the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

A week ago, Ambassador Quintana and the ERC representatives distributed food boxes donated by the ERC to Filipino residents in the UAE affected by COVID19 and other vulnerable groups who were unable to fill their food supply due to restrictions.

According to Ambassador Quintana, “the Philippines has witnessed, time and again, that the UAE is a genuine friend at crucial times and therefore our leaders and the Filipino people will always remember UAE’s gesture of kindness, generosity, and humanity especially at this time when all countries have their challenges to overcome.” END
