24 April 2014- Senator Pia Cayetano visited the Philippine Embassy in Rome to meet with the Filipino community on March 23.
In an informal atmosphere and over traditional Filipino pancit, Senator Cayetano and the Filipino community members discussed various concerns of Filipinos in Italy, ranging from health, immigration and citizenship, International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention on Domestic Workers, remittances, sports, including the issue of the Filipino’s middle name in Italian documents.
Senator Cayetano listened intently to the wide range of concerns raised by the Filipino community members, and even received position statements on the key concerns of overseas Filipinos in Rome from some of the groups present.
The Senator was on a visit to Italy to participate in the 2014 Rome Marathon held earlier that day. Her 42-kilometer run is a testament to her commitment to sports and healthy living. As a staunch supporter of women’s rights, her participation in the 2014 Rome Marathon gained more meaning as March is celebrated as International Women’s Month.
Prior to her visit to Rome, Senator Pia Cayetano was in Geneva to attend the Meeting of Women Parliamentarians of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU). Senator Cayetano served as President of the IPU Committee of Women Parliamentarians of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) from 2008-2010, the first Filipino and Asian to head it. END
