PH Embassy in Manama, ASEAN Bahrain Council Collaborate to Repatriate Overseas Filipinos

MANAMA 19 May 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Bahrain, in cooperation with ASEAN Bahrain Council (ABC), has successfully facilitated on 16 May 2020 the repatriation of six overseas Filipinos, five of whom have lost their jobs with the closure of their respective companies due to the global health crisis brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. The other Filipino is a minor.

Upon the Embassy’s endorsement of the six overseas Filipinos who signified their intention to be repatriated, and through the generosity of the ABC led by Shaikh Daij Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the one-way airfare back to the Philippines of the distressed Filipinos were funded. The repatriates expressed their gratitude to the ABC representative for the generosity and kind gesture extended to them. 

Moreover, seven male detainees, four of them were recently pardoned by HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and one female detainee were also repatriated on the same day. The Embassy facilitated the issuance of their travel documents.

The Filipino repatriates arrived in Manila on 17 May 2020 via Gulf Air 154.

Since the beginning of the health crisis, the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain has already facilitated the repatriation of a total of 218 distressed Filipino nationals. END
