PH Consulate General in Los Angeles Tunes in for Best Practices in Public Diplomacy
LOS ANGELES 21 May 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles participated in a free online workshop entitled, “Foundations and Future of Public Diplomacy” on 13 May 2020. The workshop was offered by the Center for Public Diplomacy (CPD) of the University of Southern California (USC).
Nicholas J. Cull, professor and founder of USC’s Master’s Program in Public Diplomacy at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism delivered a presentation based on his published book, “Public Diplomacy, Foundations for Global Engagement in the Digital Age.” CPD Acting Director Stacy Ingber moderated the discussion.
On the future of public diplomacy in developing countries, Professor Cull emphasized the importance of domestic social media ambassadors who tell the world of their story. “The great stories belong to nation states that have citizens who stand behind them,” stressed Prof. Cull.
The participation of the Consulate General in the workshop builds on a public diplomacy connection that has been developed between USC CPD and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in the Philippines. The DFA sends Filipino diplomats to USC CPD for short-term trainings. Representing the Consulate General during last week’s workshop were Consul Rea G. Oreta and Information Officer Mary Grace “Joss” Leaño. END
