PH Consulate General in Istanbul Facilitates Anew Distribution of Food Packs to Filipino-Turkish Nationals Affected by COVID-19

ISTANBUL 27 May 2020 – Filipino-Turkish nationals in Istanbul continue to receive food and personal hygiene packs from various municipalities in Istanbul after the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul liaised with the offices of the Mayors for temporary assistance for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of four municipalities, namely: Besiktas, Kagithane, Beyoglu and Sisli, have responded to the Consulate’s calls for support. The municipalities donated food boxes containing several types of pasta, bulgur, rice, cooking oil, canned tomatoes, beans, flour, olives, and tea while including personal hygiene items like face masks, cologne, and soap.  

So far, Besiktas Municipality has assisted 25 Filipino-Turkish nationals; Sisli Municipality with one; Beyoglu Municipality with five; and Kagithane Municipality with seven. Worth mentioning is the comforting inscription on the box from Sisli Municipality which bears the message “Sisli'de komsuluk var” conveying that “One can always find good neighbors in Sisli”. END
