TEHRAN 17 June 2020 – To adapt to the precarious public health situation in the host country, the Philippine Embassy in Tehran took to the social media platform the commemoration of the 122nd Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The respective written and video messages of Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. were posted in the official Facebook page and official website of the Embassy.
Philippine Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo C. Santos’ message to the Filipino Community in the Islamic Republic was likewise posted on the Embassy’s official website and social media page. The Ambassador enjoined overseas Filipinos in Iran to commemorate the auspicious event from the safety and comfort of their homes.
Ambassador Santos paid tribute to the forefathers for making the ultimate sacrifice for the Philippines’ independence. The Ambassador also lauded the sacrifices of Filipino frontline workers back home and around the world who are fighting COVID-19, an unseen and faceless enemy that threatens the lives of their compatriots, as well as undermines the progress all Filipinos have worked together for.
The Embassy’s social media page also featured other independence day celebration videos such as the online streaming of “Apolinario Mabini: Talino at Paninidigan” via the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) YouTube Channel, a healthcare worker tribute video, and a discussion entitled, “Mabini and the Birth of Filipino Nation.”
The Embassy also sent an email blast of Independence Day GIF postcards to government organizations in the host country, foreign missions and representations, accredited in the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as private organizations as part of its continuous promotion of the Philippines abroad.
