Aruban Prime Minister Joins Filipino Community's Independence Day Celebration

THE HAGUE 22 June 2020 — Philippine Honorary Consul to Aruba Ami Henriquez-Mendez organized and led the Filipino community in celebrating the 122nd Philippine Independence Day with a Thanksgiving Eucharistic mass at the Parokia St. Anna in Noord, Aruba on 14 June 2020.
The celebration was attended by Aruban Prime Minister Evelyn Weber-Croes and her husband, together with members of the consular corps and the Filipino community.
Prime Minister Weber-Croes congratulated the Filipino community for their continuous support and contribution to the prosperity of the Dutch Caribbean island irrespective of their fields of work and positions they are holding. She expressed and requested faith, confidence and positivism during these trying and difficult times, and is hopeful that Aruba will step out of the crisis and will come out stronger sooner.
Philippine Honorary Consul Henriquez-Mendez thanked and congratulated the Prime Minister, guests and Filipino communities for their presence.
The celebration was capped off with the singing of “Bayan Ko” by the choir followed by a food sale of Filipino delicacies at the nearby Don Bosco School for the benefit of Filipinos employed in the hotel and restaurant sectors which were greatly affected by the pandemic.
To date, Aruba has a total of 101 confirmed COVID-19 cases and recorded three deaths. No Filipino has been reported to have been infected. END
