PH Consulate General in Istanbul, Filipino Community Area Coordinators Celebrate 122nd Anniversary of PH Independence

ISTANBUL 19 June 2020 — The Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul together with Filipino Community Area Coordinators of the Food Assistance Project for Filipinos affected by COVID-19 pandemic held a program to mark the commemoration of the 122nd anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence in Istanbul on 13 June 2020.
The program consisted of prayers, singing of the Philippine National Anthem, and slicing of the Kalayaan 2020 commemorative cake. Favorite Filipino food such as chicken barbeque, fresh lumpia, eggplant salad and kakanin such as maja blanca, puto, and bibingkang malagkit were also especially prepared for the occasion.
Consul Lorena Joy Banagodos, Acting Head of Post of the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, congratulated kababayans on the occasion and thanked them for the food relief drives that they initiated to help overseas Filipinos affected by unemployment due to COVID-19 since March 2020. She also expressed appreciation for their continued commitment in helping the Philippine Government’s Food Assistance Project by verifying each and every prospective recipient.
The area coordinators, who wore colors of the Philippine flag, comprised of representatives of various Filipino community groups and areas, namely: Filipino Community in Turkey (FCT/Celiktepe and Sanayi); Filipino Community in Istanbul (FCI/Sariyer); Filipino International Charity for Social, Culture and the Arts (FICASCA/Ortabayir, Other cities in European side, outside Istanbul and single mothers with babies); FCI/Beyoglu/Taksim; FCT/Asian side; FCT/Besiktas; Kabalikat Civicom and Bayanihan sa Turkey/Gultepe and Harmantepe). The second meeting discussed and finalized the recipients for the following areas: 70 in Besiktas, 57 in Gultepe/Harmantepe, 46 in Ortabayir, 26 in Sariyer, and 33 in Taksim/Beyoglu (33). END
