PH Embassy in Oslo Celebrates 122nd Anniversary of PH Independence with Filipino seafarers

OSLO 19 June 2020 – True to the theme of Kalayaan 2020: “Tungo sa Bansang Malaya, Nagbabayanihan at Ligtas”, the Philippine Embassy in Oslo celebrated the 122nd Anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence with the Filipino seafarers and crewmembers of the Norwegian company Viking Cruises. Doubling as a send-off to the seafarers who had to be repatriated to the Philippines, the Embassy had a simple but meaningful commemoration of the Philippine National Day on 12 June 2020.
The Independence Day program was marked with the heartwarming display of Filipino hospitality and artistry shown through an energetic dance performance of the Filipino seafarers and an encouraging message from Philippine Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia. The creativity and skill of the crewmembers were highlighted with their impressive displays of jeepney, bahay kubo, and a little sari-sari store.
Despite the chilly morning, the Philippine bayanihan spirit, resilience, and positivity, was shown through the smiles of everyone present. END
