29 April 2014 – The Philippine Consul General in Guangzhou Raly L. Tejada called on officials of Hunan Provincial Government led by the Deputy Director General Qiu Aihua of the Hunan Foreign Affairs Office.
The courtesy call is the first official visit of a Consul General of the Philippines in Hunan Province. Consul General Tejada and Deputy Director General Qiu exchange pleasantries and discussed strengthening the Philippines and Hunan Province’s relations.
Consul General Tejada informed Hunan officials of the developments in the Philippines and invited them and the people of Hunan to visit the country.
On the other hand, Deputy Director General Qiu discussed Hunan’s economic development and its successful Hybrid Rice Technology Research Center. The Philippines and Hunan have been engaged in scientific exchange with several Chinese scientists visiting the Philippines to share its Hybrid Rice technology.
Deputy Director General Qiu also informed Consul General Tejada that Hunan Province has achieved food security by using scientific techniques in food production thereby earning the title of “Fish and Rice Province” of China.
The Deputy Director General also mentioned that this coming September, the Foreign Affairs Office of Hunan Provincial People’s Government will be organizing a tourism fair to celebrate tourism month and invited Consul General Raly L. Tejada to attend the opening ceremonies. He added that Hunan’s Provincial Government will promote the Philippines as a tourist destination for the people of Hunan.
Consul General Raly L. Tejada assured Deputy Director General Qiu of the Consulate General’s support and hoped that this visit will strengthen the spirit of friendship and close cooperation between the Philippines and Hunan Province in the areas of trade, food security, and tourism.
The meeting ended with an exchange of tokens between Consul General Raly L. Tejada and Deputy Director General Qiu Aihua. END
